Hill’s Pet Nutrition has a history of being a company devoted to radical thinking.  After all, there weren’t many people thinking about the role nutrition had to play in the health of our beloved dogs and cats back in the 1930’s when  Dr. Mark Morris Sr. first started concocting Raritan Ration C (now Prescription Diet k/d) in his home kitchen.  But….from that innovative idea, a whole category was born and today the role nutrition plays in enhancing the human/animal bond has never been more relevant.

Fast forward to 2018 when another radical idea, long discussed and planned for, finally came to life – the birth of Hill’s Pride Tribe.  Although Hill’s has always welcomed diversity, the company had never had an employee resource group dedicated to actively promoting this inclusivity throughout the organization.  That all changed when the Pride Tribe kicked off its official existence at Hill’s with a fun launch party in Lawrence, KS in the Fall of 2018.  People from all over the organization came together to pledge their support for the Pride Tribe, sharing stories, laughter, cocktails and collaborating on an amazing mural that now hangs in the lobby of Hill’s corporate office in Topeka.

Out of that simple beginning came a group of people passionately dedicated to creating awareness and support for the LGBTQIA+ community inside and outside of Hill’s.  The Pride Tribe provides opportunities for ALL Hill’s people in the following areas:

  • Visible Collaboration
  • Advocacy
  • Professional Development
  • Social Networking

We believe that our unique talents, perspectives and skills contribute to Hill’s global business success and community goals.

Over the last two years, the Tribe has worked hard to create a series of fun activities that help amplify our purpose and provide an open forum for our colleagues to ask questions, receive answers and get involved in our mission.  These include:

  • Celebrating Pride Day/Month with activities in KS and NYC
  • Commemorating World Aids Day
  • Honoring Coming Out Day
  • Hosting local guest speakers from the LGBTQIA+ community

At every event and throughout each activity, the sense of welcome from our fellow employees and the level of support from our Senior Leadership has been clear.

Although 2020 is starting out a little bit differently than we all thought it would (thanks COVID-19!), we’re looking forward to an amazing year as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first US Pride march –initially called Christopher Street Liberation Day March– one year following the Stonewall riots. Even in a time of social distancing, this diverse community will continue to show our resilience and support by joining together to celebrate love and inclusivity!

If you’re thinking about creating a diversity group like Pride Tribe at your organization, we’d love to talk to you about what’s working at Hill’s.  Reach out to our team at and let’s work together to create a world that welcomes ALL of us.  A world where we celebrate what makes us unique, we enjoy what makes us different and we look beyond the label to love the individual
