We are angry. We are heartbroken. And we are so tired of having reasons to write statements like this.

Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and Cameron Davis Capara were killed outside Venture-N, an LGBTQ+ gathering place in Tucson. Police are investigating their deaths as a possible hate crime after finding that the alleged shooter had a list of LGBTQIA+ businesses.

Today, we are thinking about Vincent and Cameron, the people who loved them, and the LGBTQ+ community in Tucson grieving their loss.

We are also thinking about what it means when violence follows us into the places we go to find community, connection, joy, and safety.

We should be able to gather without fear.

We should be able to walk into a queer space without wondering whether being there makes us a target. We should be able to be visible, find one another, celebrate together, and simply exist as ourselves without calculating whether doing so makes us less safe.

We know this tragedy does not exist in isolation, and that ours is not the only community grieving right now. There is more to say about that, and we will.

But today, we grieve for Vincent and Cameron and with the Tucson LGBTQ+ community.

And we are angry that there is so much to grieve.
