PrideVMC Announces the “Make Time for IX” Resource Packet
On June 17, 2021 in reflection of the 2020 Bostock v Clayton County Supreme Court ruling (protecting LGBTQ+ individuals from workplace discrimination), the Department of Education extended Title IX to protect the LGBTQ+ community.
Title IX states “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
In recognition of this important evolution and to provide tools for implementation, the PrideVMC Gender Identity subgroup has created a “Make Time for IX” resource packet available on the PrideVMC website. The information contained in this resource serves to support administrators and educators as well as interns, residents, and graduate students who also shape the educational experience of veterinary students regarding Title IX and the LGBTQ+ community.

PrideVMC President Dr. Dane Whitaker extends his gratitude to Drs. Lin-Hendel, Wolff, Ward, and all those involved with the creation of these resources, “We invite our colleagues in academia to review and incorporate these valuable resources and to join us in the commitment to ensure these extended protections are implemented for your students, residents, interns, and graduate students”.

An additional valuable resource is the following video released by the US Departments of Justice, Education, and Health and Human Services supporting the rights of Transgender students: https://youtu.be/lGHtoBJMcgU.
To discuss this and related resources join President Whitaker and the “Make Time for IX” co-authors on September 14, 2021 at 7pm CT for Gender Identity in Veterinary Medicine.
